Episode 29 - ๐ ๐Christmas pt2๐๐
The run up to Christmas was the most exciting. I loved it! As we approached Christmas there would be presents placed underneath the Christmas tree. This was a playground for me….Cover me I’m going in! with my super sniffing capabilities I could identify presents wrapped for me and on one or two occasions couldn’t wait and had to open them. This got me into a bit of trouble – Whoops! For many years there were chocolate decorations hanging from the tree. I may have been caught sampling these from time to time! Mum got wise to this an after that these were only hung on the high branches of the tree where I couldn’t reach – Doh!
On Christmas Eve we all go to Nanna’s house for hot food including freshly cooked ham and roast potatoes. As a key member of the family, I was also allowed to sample the fresh ham – absolutely fantastic! I had my own bowl of ham and then moved on to Dad where I managed to get half of his share also – mission complete.
On Christmas Day morning we would all rush downstairs to wait outside the living room door before going in to see if Santa had been. H and Pipps were so excited that they could almost not wait to open the door, but Mum insisted that we were all together first. I was not short of my own excitement: this was my most favourite day of the year. Therefore, I did not like being at the back of the queue. Within a couple of minutes I always managed to sneak through the crowd and end up number one on the runway waiting for the living room door to open.
Then it was time, the door was opened, H and Pipps rushed in straight away to find that Santa had been to visit and left them loads of presents. Although liking the contents of these parcels, my main interest was more to do with the wrapping paper! I loved ripping this off presents and then attacking the paper with full force! I would also get my own presents which were great but never as good as playing with the paper and helping to open everyone else’s presents.
Dad would allow me to open his presents which I was only too happy to help with. I used my paws to create and opening in the parcel and then get my teeth in and pull the paper apart at lightning speed. Dad would roll the used wrapping paper into small balls and throw them for me. I would be off after them and dive through the melee of presents, people and boxes to reach the thrown items almost before they hit the floor. In the excitement I would sometimes forget to go the toilet and have an accident on the floor. I didn’t get wrong as Mum and Dad could see how excited I was.
Merry Christmas - Time for my nap!
After the opening of the presents clams down, we would go back to Nanna’s house for Christmas dinner. Again, I was lucky to get a fair share of the meats of the day – Turkey and Beef! By late afternoon after all the excitement of the day and all that food, I would calm down for a well-earned afternoon nap in the company of everyone I loved. These were some of the best days!Anyway, off to catch some rest before the big day!
