Episode 15 – 🥽Anyone for a swim!💦

Me chilling in the summer sun

I love the summer: Long, hot days (not too hot as my fur coat keeps me rather warm) long plays in the garden, trips to the beach, rides in the car and generally having great fun with my family.

During these summer days I would play in the garden with Dad, RJ and now H as he is a little older. My favourite games are playing with long dog although he does get covered in grass after playing outside, and small squidgy balls (just the right size to fit in my mouth). Dad did try me with a tennis ball as I saw a lot of other dogs playing with these on the beach. There was a device that this ball fixed into and then this was flicked in a fast semi-circular motion which launched the tennis ball for what seemed to be miles. The other larger dogs on the beach loved this. Unfortunately for my delicately small mouth, the tennis ball was far too big for me and so this toy was a non-starter.

One of my best games was playing with small stones: they were just the right size, and I could smell Dad’s scent on them for quite a distance so I could find them quite easily even in the long grass. Too easily sometimes as I was back for the next throw before Dad was ready. In the garden on a long hot summer’s day, he loved to read his book. I had other plans. Just as he settled down on a new page I would approach him with several short sharp Gruuffs and drop a stone next to him. A quick show of the deep brown eyes and a friendly wag of my tail and I was off chasing the newly thrown stone. As I got back to Dad he had just picked up his book again and still never got to read a word before he heard two friendly Gruuffs and the sound of a stone dropping next to him. He made grumbly noises but loved playing with me really. It was some of his best days with me he would say.

Now we had my new brother, H, around in the summer Mum bought him a paddling pool. This was a large orange inflatable pen that Dad filled it with water from the garden hose pipe. H had a small slide that Dad placed over the wall of the paddling pool so that H could climb up and slide down into the water. This was a really fun way to cool down on a red-hot afternoon. It looked so good in fact that when no one was looking, I wanted to have a piece of that action!

Suddenly, Dad heard a large splosh an H laughing. Oh No! what’s happened. He came running over to the paddling pool to see me having great fun paw deep in cooling water!

If it's good enough for H, it's good enough for me!

“Why you little……” he explained and then tried to get me out. I had other ideas and did my shaky thing covering him in water splashes! I was a great jumper and so when I had enough in the pool I could jump out all by myself. What great fun – I loved my family and playing with them in the summer.

Time to get out an do my Shaky Thing!

Oh Well, Time to get a quick cool off in the paddling pool,

TTFN,

Mazie
