Episode 14 – Cocoa (not the drink!)
During the hot summer weather, I liked nothing more than playing with dad and RJ in the garden. We used to play fetch with the ball, and I could get this back to them before they had even reset their throwing arm. I raced back and gave them an exited Gruufff! To let them know I was ready for the next throw.
RJ used to sit on the trampoline we had in the garden and despite me being quite small (beauty in a small package I’d like to think of it!) I could jump all the way up onto the trampoline and drop my ball next to him. Especially if he was not throwing it again fast enough for me.
Dad thought that my athleticism was such that I may be able to be entered into an agility competition. With that in mind, he set about making up a course for me to jump around and test my skills.
This was great fun, but I soon got bored of this as I just wanted to play with my ball. Therefore, on round three of the test I just stopped and sat down. Unfortunately, dad had not realised this and then spent the next five minutes running and jumping round the course shouting encouragement to me without realising that I wasn’t there. As he sped around the last jump, he noticed me watching him from a distance and then looked back to realise that he had been running around the course all by himself.
“Why you little……..” he exclaimed! I just gave him a welcoming smile and wag of my tail – no one could resist that and within minutes we were playing fetch with the ball and best of friends. It was fun to see him running around an agility course without me.
One day, we were outside in the garden when I heard a barking noise coming from my neighbour’s garden. What could that be. I noticed a brown, black and white dog (bigger than me) jumping up and down. I could see them as they jumped higher than the fence that was bordering their garden. The neighbours noticed me and asked if it would be ok for us to meet. That was when I met one of my best dog friends, Cocoa. She was just a pup like me but had already grown much bigger than I was. She was as full of energy as I was. We immediately bonded and ran around both gardens at near light speed chasing each other. This reminded me of the time before joining my family when I used to run around with my brother and sisters. This was great fun but eventually things got a little carried away and a playful run-around soon became a little angrier. At that point both of our parents separated us and brought us back to our respective gardens.
I would play with Cocoa many times and each time we started off very playful but, in the excitement, always got a little carried away. One day Cocoa escaped for her garden and managed to get into my garden. We then both went on an adventure through the local area. When we were eventually found we were both told off and grounded. I did see some of Cocoa after that but mostly I was kept on a leader to stop me being naughty and running off again. Cocoa lived near to Nana and so I still saw her from time to time after we moved house.
Anyway, time to chase around the garden and try not to get told off for getting too excited.
TTFN,
Mazie.
