Episode 8 – Anyone for a Ride?

Me in my favourite spot in the car

Not long after settling into my new home, dad carried me into his car. He set aside a lovely soft blanket for me and sat me on the passenger seat next to him. I was a little concerned about this: was I going to be taken to another new home? The last time we went in a car I was taken from my first home with my dog mum, brother and sister to my new family. I didn’t want to go to another family; I loved the one I was with. I was a little unsettled and would not sit down. As the car moved through the city, I kept stumbling and falling. Eventually dad pulled over and moved the blanket onto the footwell floor of the passenger side of the car and snuggled me into it. This made me feel a little more secure, but I was still worried about being taken to a new family.

After a short time, dad stopped the car, got out and came around to my side where he lifted me (still in the blanket) out and walked over to a large building that I had never seen before. What’s going on? I had nothing to worry about though, because dad had taken me to where mum worked so that I could see her and she could give me a huge cuddle. I was also introduced to some of the other people she worked with, and they said I looked cute and gave me lovely cuddles also. I enjoyed that visit but eventually started to get a little bored and so dad took me home again and we played with my toys.

Once I realised that riding in the car was not going to lead me to a new family, I quickly started to enjoy this. I found my new spot on the arm rest between the two front seats. This meant that I could be close to mum and dad whilst also being high enough to see out of the window. I don’t think that I was supposed to sit there but eventually (due to my “get my own way” Shih Tzu nature!) dad gave in a fixed a blanket there so that I was more comfortable and was more secure. I loved riding in the car and dad loved having me there too. I used to go all over the place with him for nothing else other than to enjoy the ride and for us to be with each other. Many trips to the garage for fuel were taken with us both. Whilst dad went to pay for the petrol (gas for our American audience!) I would do my duty as a Shih Tzu guard dog and give my best angry barks to anyone who dared to come anywhere near the car, and many who were no where near! just to assert my authority. I sometimes got a little carried away and dad made me sit in the back of the car until I calmed down, he called that the “sin bin”.

There was nothing like a trip to the beach in the car with the whole family and then to sleep it all off on the drive home in my favourite spot next to dad.

Anyway, time for a quick drive around the block and see who I can bark at whilst trying not to get put in the sin bin! LOL!

TTFN,

Mazie
