Episode 6 – Playtime with my bestie!

"Mazie - Sit" - not a chance!

My new family consisted of mum, dad and RJ. RJ was my older brother (human). He was 11 years old when I first met him and we took to each other immediately. This was the start of a magic relationship that lasted my whole life.

I remember playing with him in our living room with a Disney squeaky toy. He would sit on the floor and hold to toy at full arm’s length and let me try and jump up to reach it. I was a good jumper and could nearly get it even though it was really high. I sometimes used to pretend to miss the toy and jump on RJ himself. He used to find this really funny and we rolled around on the floor having the best time.

I had been taught some tricks off my mum. I could sit down, lie down and roll over. When RJ was playing with me, he used to try and get me to sit down before he threw the toy. I was far too excited to have any of that, and I used to just jump all over him to try and make him forget to make me sit. When he did throw the toy, I couldn’t wait until he told me to fetch and ran straight after it every time.

Sometimes he would deliberately not throw the toy to get me to sit down but I did everything I knew to try and trick him into throwing the toy sooner.

“Mazie sit…….no sit…..no, don’t roll over, sit…….Ahh - stop jumping on me…..sit”

…I rolled over again…
“Sit Mazie…..”.
Guess who….
“Grrrufff”

“Oh alright – fetch”

(toy thrown) - I win – generous tail wag!! Toy back now and time for round 2!

There was so much to see and do in our home that sometimes while playing, I would get a little distracted and drop the toy I was fetching and go off after the new sound or smell. Shortly afterwards I got a friendly shout or whistle from RJ reminding me that we were in the middle of a game – whoops!

We had a fluffy cushion in the living room, and it was as fury as me. When I thought that no-one was looking, I used to get it in my mouth and give it a massive shake. Well, someone had to show it who’s boss – just don’t tell mum, she would go mad!

That’s all for now, time to pretend not to understand the instruction “sit” for comic effect. I am a Shih Tzu after all, got to keep the reputation up! I’ll speak to you next time.
