Episode 2 - Settling in and Food
Many times, mum would be trying to do some work when I flew past a full speed shortly followed by dad chasing me. I saw her laughing at dad’s clumsy running and chasing which made me laugh also.
I had loads of food which initially my old home had told mum that I liked tripe. For those who don’t know what that is that’s probably an advantage as it consists of bits of meat that no one else wants to eat but I loved it. I loved watching dad gag when putting this out for me as he said it was disgusting. I ate every scrap, and it was delicious to a few months old pup!
My love for tripe did not last long as I very shortly discovered other culinary delights such as roast pork, beef and my favourite chicken. Mum and dad kept trying me with proper dog food, I soon got them to stop that idea, who do they think I am? A dog!
Other food I got to like on my favourite treat list included Chocolate, although my mum kept telling me it was bad for me, it didn’t taste bad. Obviously as a classing person, I was very picky about which brand of chocolate treats I was getting, none of that cheap stuff for me please. Dad used to laugh at how I would chew this and then realise that it wasn’t the good stuff and then proceed to spit it out on the floor. Mum was less pleased about chocolate stains on her new rug! Oops!
Mum told me that her mum’s dog, Millie, would just about eat anything and then ask questions about whether that was actually food or not later. She did eat an entire box of chocolates wrapped for a Christmas present once and got put on the naughty step. I on the other hand quickly got a reputation for being very picky about my food and I remember having many wars of attrition with my parents who kept trying to feed me dog food and me on hunger strike until they cracked and gave me roast chicken. I always won with my Shih Tzu cute eyes and charm!
I once had to have an operation at the vets (a story for another day) and they told mum and dad that they were going to spoil me with chicken to eat as a treat for going through the operation. Dad gave mum a slight glance as they didn’t want to admit that chicken was one of my staple diets and not a ‘treat’ as the vet thought.
That’s all for now, some tasty chocolate to consume after all this food talk, I’ll speak to you next time. TTFN
